This is a quest to cover the famous anime, Case Closed / Detective Conan『名探偵コナン』, locations in various locations in Japan.
For this post, the main film is The Lost Ship in the Sky (天空の難破船), the 14th film released in 2010. Since the film’s main location is the airship, I would then focus at the locations on the ground – Nara and Osaka!
Please note that I skip Saku Island (佐久島) in Aichi (愛知県) where Conan and Kaito Kid landed after got thrown out of the airship.
奈良市 – Nara
This film drags from Tokyo to Osaka – mainly in the sky, however, there is one main city that stands out, Nara.
興福寺、奈良公園 – Kofukuji Temple and Nara Park
The first scene in Nara shows the deers running away when they see the airship. Moreover, it is also the location where the Buddha statues are stolen. Please note that the Pagoda was under renovation at the time of visit. 📅 January 6, 2026
JR奈良駅 – JR Nara Station
A lot of Nara residents escape the city from this station, hence it was featured in the film. However, I didn’t use this station myself. I went to Nara via Kintetsu Line (近鉄奈良線). 📅 January 6, 2026
大阪市 – Osaka
There were a few Osaka locations in the film that exist in real life, however, I could not specify which bridge was the actual one the airship went under. Anyway, Dotonbori (道頓堀) and Shin Osaka Station (新大阪駅) were the actual location from the anime. 📅 May 1-2, 2024 and January 6, 2026
Please note that the Bell Tree Tower in Nankai, Osaka is fictional. Not to be confused with Bell Tree Tower in Tokyo which is “Tokyo Skytree” (東京スカイツリー) in real life.
